Filling Out of Tax Returns
You are welcome to have us fill out the tax return in the cantons of Zurich, Zug, Aargau, Thurgau, Schaffhausen, St. Gallen, Schwyz, Bern, and the other German-speaking cantons. We only make tax returns in French or Italian in exceptional cases where a business relationship already exists.
Send us all the necessary documents by e-mail or post. We will then send you the completed tax return for checking, signing and forwarding to the tax office.
When filling out the form, we make use of all deduction options so that your tax burden is optimized as best as possible within the framework of the legal possibilities.
However, by the time you fill out your tax return, it is already too late for the big tax savings. Here, tax planning in advance is necessary.
Tax Planning for Private Individuals for the Purpose of Tax Optimization
Planning taxes means saving taxes.
By planning ahead, taxes and duties can be significantly optimized in some cases.
It deals with topics such as:
Almost everyone has income to pay tax on. And the Swiss income tax is progressive. This means that the tax is higher as a percentage of income when income is higher. Overall, taxes are lower if income is taxed evenly over the years, instead of a lot of income in one year and little in another. In order to break this tax progression, activities that lead to higher tax deductions (e.g. purchases into the pension fund) should take place precisely in the years with high income.
Various optimization options are deliberately intended by law, but are subject to strict criteria to prevent misuse. An example are purchases in pension schemes or the tax relief when giving up self-employment after the age of 55. With all these optimization options, it is important to strictly adhere to these criteria. Otherwise, the preferential tax treatment can be lost because of a small mistake.
If a person is active in business, there are generally more tax planning options. This can be as a self-employed person or as an employee of an own company.
Privately owned real estate also offers room for tax optimisation. For example, non-value-added maintenance costs can be precisely allocated to a high-income year to break the tax progression. In the case of major renovations, on the other hand, it can be worth spreading them over several tax periods. Depending on your personal situation, there are other options, e.g. to minimize inheritance or gift tax, etc.
If the income is regularly so high that the highest tax progression level is reached, then some of the tax optimization options described above no longer play a role. Then it is much more about the investment of the saved assets.
etc.
Cantons
We are a tax consultant in Zurich, but serve clients from all over German-speaking Switzerland by email, phone, mail and if necessary, also virtual conferences (no installation necessary). We speak English and German.
Each canton has its own tax laws. However, the cantons must comply with the tax harmonization law at federal level. This law gives the cantons rules on what their tax laws should look like. The cantonal tax laws are therefore very similar in important respects.
And for federal taxes, the same federal laws apply throughout Switzerland anyway.
We use the Dr. Tax software solution for filling out tax returns. This program automatically makes the maximum deductions in all cantons. If you want to fill out your tax return yourself, we can only highly recommend this program (Dr. Tax Privat). However, knowledge of the local language is beneficial.
The annual instruction booklets from the cantons for tax returns are also usually written in a very understandable way. And if something is unclear, more specific, more complicated, or if we want to examine a tax optimization option more closely, then we read the cantonal tax laws, ordinances, possibly court decisions, and secondary literature.
In our home canton of Zurich, too, we have to keep reading the laws on important issues, just to be sure that we have not remembered anything wrong and that the law has not changed in the meantime.
In this way we can cover all German-speaking cantons.
If you do not have a tax advisor yet, it makes sense to look in your own canton first. This does not change the fact that we look forward to hearing from you, no matter which German-speaking canton you come from.
