How to Extend Tax Deadline in Canton Zurich

In the Canton of Zurich, the municipalities are responsible for extending the tax deadlines of individuals.

The municipalities usually have a functionality to extend the tax filling deadline on their website. Search in Google for "NameOfMunicipality tax extension" or "NameOfMunicipality Fristerstreckung" (without the quotation marks).

For the online extension some character strings are required. Which strings are required depends on the municipality.

These strings can be found on the first page of your paper tax forms. If you did not receive the form, then you should at least have received a plain letter from the tax office containing these strings.

Unfortunately, not all municipalities provide the extension functionality in English. Some are only in German.

If you cannot figure it out, you can always call the local municipality by phone to get it done.
